This climate adaptation video is a case study featuring scientists, resource managers, and strong partners working together to replant Haleakalā’s iconic species, the Silversword. With climate projections indicating warmer and drier conditions, the team is strategically using climate models to identify locations that have a wide range of rainfall, increased elevations, and hopefully conditions that will allow these plants to survive in future conditions. The National Park used a collaborative process to apply the climate science to their decision making process. There are no guarantees that it will work, however scientists like Paul Krushelnycky from the University of Hawai‘i and all of the partners contributing to this effort will continue to monitor and adapt over time as needed.
