PEAC’s Pacific ENSO Update
The Pacific ENSO Applications Climate (PEAC) Center publishes a quarterly bulletin about climate variability related to the El Niño Southern Oscillation (ENSO) climate cycle for Hawai‘i and the U.S.-Affiliated Pacific Islands (USAPI). The Pacific ENSO Update newsletter supplies information for those involved in climate-sensitive sectors such as civil defense, resource management, and developmental planning in the various jurisdictions of the USAPI.
ENSO is an ocean-atmosphere climate cycle in the equatorial Pacific Ocean that is characterized by El Nino and La Nina phases, which recur approximately every three to seven years. The ENSO cycle strongly influences precipitation and drought in the Pacific Islands.
