Synergistic Impacts of Ocean Acidification and Climate Change on Coral Reefs
Summary
How do ocean acidification and light impact coral bleaching? This project develops models that predict changes in coral growth rates in response to increased temperatures and ocean acidification. Experiments described the interactions between temperature, water chemistry, and radiation from the sun on growth and mortality in a common coral species. These data are necessary for developing and refining models evaluating the future impact of climate change on Pacific coral reef communities. Results aim to help define appropriate management responses and prioritize interventions for the most vulnerable species.
